Purple velvet whoopie pies

By now I'm sure you've all seen those adorable red velvet whoopie pies floating around Pinterest.

Ours are not nearly that cute.
A) We were racing against bed time so I didn't want to trace 18 hearts onto wax paper..
B) I found the red food coloring AFTER giving up and making the batter blue..
C) I am forever out of powdered sugar. Seriously.

But, the kids enjoyed them and I replaced half of the butter with coconut oil so they turned out pretty delicious!

Phoenix and the Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium.

We had so much fun this week! This picture is going to be quite a bit of photo spam but if you're ever in the area you need to check out the Wildlife World Zoo . I'm not usually a zoo person, seeing caged, sad animals isn't really my thing. This place was awesome though! All the animals had room to roam around and they seemed genuinely happy. Except the jaguar, but his new home is in the process of being built so it was understandable.
My kids had so much fun! Keeping three toddlers entertained isn't easy but they all enjoyed themselves. We found Nemo and Dori, Ursula's "creepy" friends (eels) for A, giraffes and penguins for the Madagascar obsessed and they all loved the African safari train!
